U.K.-based JDR Cable Systems, a global subsea cable supplier and servicer owned by Poland-based TFKable Group, has broken ground on its new U.S. headquarters.
The 65,000-square-foot facility is on a 10-acre site at 2012 S. Persimmon, east of Highway 249 in Tomball. It is a design/build project by Houston-based KDW, and construction began in July, according to press releases from JDR and KDW.
The facility will include 45,000 square feet of assembly and testing space — which will house a 60-ton overhead crane — and 20,000 square feet of two-story office space.
The project is expected to be complete in the first half of 2021 and will allow JDR to expand its intervention workover control systems (IWOCS) rental business to support current demand.
A variety of functions will be performed at the new facility, including engineering and management for global projects, assembly of various oil field equipment and support for JDR’s offshore service business.
JDR plans to consolidate three of its existing facilities in the region into the new facility, which will feature more space “to improve efficiencies and safety measures in its supply chain, as well as reduce transportation costs,” per JDR’s release. The Houston Business Journal has reached out for more information about the location and size of those existing facilities. However, KDW’s press release notes that JDR previously operated in northwest Houston off Highway 290 near Beltway 8, and the new facility will be closer to the company’s workforce in Tomball, Magnolia, Cypress and Waller
Once the facility is complete, JDR plans to hire additional engineers and service technicians to expand its local presence. Neither press release indicated how many employees JDR expects to hire or move into the facility. The HBJ has reached out for more information.
“Our Houston-based business has grown strongly over the last decade, following an increased demand from our customers for IWOC rental systems,” said Brian Davis, Houston general manager at JDR. “We have also increased our manufacturing and service support for our oil and gas customers in the Gulf of Mexico and abroad.”
