The same job, very different conditions

Corporate relocations into West Texas on our record since 2005, across eleven economic development organizations. East Texas has eighteen organizations and three arrivals.

That is not a verdict on anybody’s work. North and Central Texas have the airports, the universities and twenty years of companies who went first and told their friends. An organization in Midland or Tyler is doing the same job against a completely different starting position, and it is worth being able to say so with a number.

It is also an argument. If you are making the case for investment in a region that has not been on the map, this is the data that frames it, and it comes from a source with no stake in which region wins.

It counts arrivals, not jobs or investment. One arrival in a small city can matter more than ten in a large one. It does not count expansions by companies already in Texas, which are a larger number than the relocations. And the record is what could be verified, not a census, so every figure here is a floor rather than a total.
