After announcing last year plans to build a new $100 million manufacturing and research and development facility in Lewisville, Dallas-based cosmetics giant Mary Kay Inc. has pinpointed a site for the plant, which will bolster its already massive testing operations.
Mary Kay’s 26.2-acre plot is located on the northeast corner of Denton Tap Road and Vista Ridge Mall Drive, and is expected to house a 470,000-square-foot facility.
This plant will be an upgrade to the company’s current manufacturing and R&D location on Regal Row in Addison, which is approximately 420,000 square feet and conducts more than 500,000 tests each year. The Regal Row location employs 500 people and its operations support Mary Kay’s 3.5 million independent sales force members worldwide.
The company plans to break ground on the new building this September and construction is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2018.
All manufacturing and R&D employees will be relocated at that time. The company said in November it does not anticipate hiring additional employees, at least for now, but the new facility will allow Mary Kay to develop new products, which may require more staff.
Last year, Mary Kay also told the Dallas Business Journal it looked at several locations across North Texas for the facility, deciding on Lewisville due to employee and logistical considerations like employee drive time, public transportation and proximity to major roadways. Proximity to the company’s other facilities, including its headquarters on Regal Row in Addison, also impacted the decision.
