Austin startup acquired by health tech giant

Patient IO, an Austin-based health care technology startup, has been acquired for an undisclosed amount by Athenahealth Inc., a large health-tech company based in Massachusetts that is building a large presence in the Texas capital.

All 12 employees of Filament Labs Inc., which operates as Patient IO, will join Athenahealth’s Austin office, including Patient IO CEO Jason Bornhorst, who has been named executive director of product strategy.

Patient IO, founded in March 2013, created an online platform and mobile app that enables physicians to monitor patients remotely. It won the top innovation award from Seton Healthcare Family earlier this year.
